| Subject: ? last year of Kick start production/? all TW200 electric start & 5 speed 6/4/2010, 9:02 pm | |
| I'm in the process of researching on TW200-and I wish I would have purchased one instead of my KLR 650 (way too heavy for my needs in trail riding-and its been sold). One thing I didn't like about the KLR was it was only electric start-and conversion to also a kick start was quite involved-as it seem to be also for the TW200. ? last year of both electric start and kick start. ? TW200 5 speed-or were they 4 speed in the earlier years?. Lastly was there a production year that I should be aware of any major modifications improvements? | |

| My guess on the year for the kstart change is 2000. I have added a kick starter to my 2006 and it is not a big project, in my opinion. Lots of forum members have older bikes. No 'major' problems with any, but it is suggested that when the bike was introduced in the late 80's the electrics had a couple of glitches. Once in the 90's those issues were resolved and the bike changed very little. I believe the trans has always been a five speed. 90's bikes had front drum, 2000's use disk, but both seem to work fine and have not generally been a deal breaker. Lots more info on the Yamaha TW trailways forum. Gerry | |
