clutch problem? Empty
PostSubject: clutch problem?   clutch problem? Empty9/20/2010, 12:41 am

My new tw200 clutch engages at almost the end of the clutch lever travel when letting the clutch out. And I can push the motorcycle with the lever depressed and the motor running but with the motor shut off and the clutch lever depressed there is a lot of drag and I can't push the motorcycle. Is this normal? I have just over 1000 miles.

you can change where the clutch lets out by adjusting the cable slack. the adjuster screws into the clutch lever bracket on the cables end and if you turn it so that it screws out it will tighten cable giving better clutch disengagement. it doesnt take much to change clutch characteristics. the owners manual should detail clutch adjustment.

I'm not worried about the place of engagement. I'm worried the clutch may not be releasing. I don't think external adjustments will correct the dis-engagement. The clutch is engaged at the beginning of pulling the lever. If I move engagement toward the center it will not help the clutch dragging at full clutch lever engagement.

Am I missing something here?

what i was trying to suggest was that by tightening the cable it may disengage the clutch a little more when you pull the lever. i wasnt sure what you had tried so i just mentioned it trying to give you somewhere to start.

i misunderstood that the clutch was already letting out near the end of clutch lever travel.

good luck shawn

Make sure the 'return' spring is hooked up and onto the clutch-arm comming out of the left side of the engine case. Many of us have had the spring left unconnected to that lever. This make the clutch action very soft. Gerry

Saw your post on Adv. rider, hope you got things straightened out. here is another shot. More than a few of us did not have the spring hooked up and over the arm. Here is another great place to get TW information, http://tw200forum.com/ Gerry
