I'm sure you folks already have knowledge of this,but,if not.Wearing gloves to work on anything is a bother,something I learned over at TT forum was to rub shaving cream into your hands.The shaving cream has lanoline,silicone and a bunch of other stuff in it....the dirt sticks to the shaving cream and not to your hands.
