Custom made T-Dub parts, anyone have ideas? Empty
PostSubject: Custom made T-Dub parts, anyone have ideas?   Custom made T-Dub parts, anyone have ideas? Empty10/29/2010, 7:41 pm

I develop parts for the Suzuki Boulevard M50 and M90.
I enjoy this as a hobby and after making parts I see a need for I then produce them in some quantity and make
available for sale.

What I am wanting for my T-Dub is a rear fender inner liner that keeps the mud and dirt off the bottom of the seat and
also provides a place for a storage pocket.

My idea is that while developing this inner liner I will make a way for he seat to come off with a key lock so the seat becomes the lid
for this compartment and makes it secure so you can hide and keep things in this pocket/inner liner/tray.

Any thoughts on this?

I mold plastic and can me a custom part that its into the bike and at the same time develop a key lock system for the seat.

Any interest in this? If yes, email me at ken@shape-master.com

See my website at www.shape-master.com for a view of some of the parts I make for the Suzuki bikes.

My goal is to make parts that the after market guys refuse to make and help out my fellow motorcycle riders.

I own two TW200's a 2010 and a 2006.

Ken, the TW is a pretty unique bike and as well, seems to attract a unique following. Many of the bikes followers are drawn to the machine as a result of the affordable price (new or used). Generally, mods that gain favor are modestly priced, like Chinese footpegs or Walmart seat pads. Not sure what you are putting together, but for this market, I would suggest you go low-tech and low-cost. Please post a picture. Gerry

I agree Gerry

Thanks for the thoughts. We are an American company so low cost isn't going to be Chinese but it isn't going to break or crumble as many complain that the Chinese foot pegs do.

I'm thinking plastic components that make the bike more versatile. I also want to offer an engine guard as well.

It will take time to work them into my schedule but I do want to offer a few unique things for this bike. I'll post some photos when the parts have been developed and tested.

Any ideas?

Take care,

Ken

I have happy trails panniers on the rear but my TW is a double bagger. The front setup carries a pair of cas cans.

As a brand new tw owner I am most interested in a few basic mods to increase the tw's utility for me including a higher capacity tank and the oil filter cover that would allow the owner to install a oil cooler. The tank is available from clark for @200 dollars but I have yet to find anyone who has produced the oil filter cover for what I would consider would be worth the investment. From what I have read the tank is a good one but has some room for improvement. Also I have read about a custom hub being designed by a board member that allowed him to run a tubeless tire/rim and run a disk brake rear. This is the mod I would drop 200 bucks on right now! Ill bet you would have some serious interest in. Make sure you keep us posted this seem to be a pretty tight community that likes to support manufacturers that produce for them.

Shapemaster, the TW crowd will be a tuff nut to crack. These guys are my 'buddies' but most seem to be tight with their money. As an 'invertor' type myself, I know you will need to keep it simple and inexpensive.

Here are a couple of ideas that may fall into that category. More than a few of use have been inclined to raise our front fender. Seems we all invented our own brackets. What might be nice is a pre-formed, pre-drilled wedge to allow someone to drill and bolt their front fender to the lower triple-tree. The other is to design a 'bracket' that would allow someone to easily install the 'popular' threaded/capped utility tubes/containers on a 'stock' bike. Seems those that use these popular components have a nice rear rack. Since our gas tank is so small, these tubes make it easy to carry a couple of fuel bottles or tools without much fuss. Good luck. Thanks to every one of my fellow TW riding buddies who entered some thoughts here.

I own three T-Dubs. A 2010, 2006 and 1994.

I have two of them in my fabrication shop now and am looking to create the following:

Fat Foot: a kickstand bolt on piece that gives the stand good support on soft soil or mud. This will be plastic or aluminum and light weight yet affordable and strong.

Windhshields that are strong and non-breakable. Colors, tints, and in various sizes.

Fairing with windshields to give protection from the wind in winter or cold weather riding. Easy on, easy off.
This will protect hands from wind.

Under the Seat pan for storage and security. This will be a plastic molded pan that uses the available space above the rear tire
under the seat with enough room for items you want to lock up and/or secure while riding.
A great place for tools, papers, wallet, cell phone.
The seat will now be removed with a key latch and not two bolts.

Storage contianer for handlebars. Custom molded to fit on top of the handlebar support rod and includes a locking lid for security.
If you commute with your T-Dub this will be handy for wallet, cell phone, glasses or gloves storage or for house keys or other items you dont' want getting lost.

Rear fender inner fender liner to protect swing arm and rear shock.

New Front fender designs. Some will allow for a higher location on the forks.

Brackets for mounting tubes for storage.

New chain gaurds for style.

Just a sampling.

Ken
