| To further update my modding activities and make folks aware of some additional material on the site, I opted to post this information separately. Upon installing the Yamaha Tri-Z forks (see other post below) I was not able to utilize the stock TW speed-o assembly because the hub drive is blocked by the modified brake mount. There is a real nice and very popular electronic system that is reasonably priced and provides additional features. I shied away from the 'Vapor' unit because I already had a tach, temp. gauge and clock. I decided instead to make my own console using a very inexpensive electronic bicycle speedometer that I purchase at Walmart for $10. Had to add some length to the pickup wire and get some led lamps at Radio shack, but all in all, the unit is accurate, easy to read and fits into my "home made" theme very well. Sometimes one mod mandates another. Case in point would be a wider chain guard after doing the duel drive sprockets front and rear. The stock nylon unit would rub so I used some aluminum angle purchased at the local hardware store. Some rivets, JB weld and beefier swing arm attachment brackets (stock ones fatigued and broke after a few months) and I had what I wanted. Gerry | |

| Well my bicycle speed o meter went south on me during last Sundays ride. As a proponent of 'low cost' I have decided to splurge and consolidate at the same time. After the ride, I ordered a Trail Tech Vector with oil temp sender. With this, I will keep my 'tiny tach' but my current oil temp gauge will go. Not sure what I will gain, if anything. The bike speed-O's have worked fine in the past but the on the last two rides I had issues. For the first I re-wired the reed switch. I am not so stubborn as to stay with an idea that does not seem to work after repeated effort. Will let you know/see what the Vector ends up looking like. Gerry | |
