Tire Pressure Question Empty
PostSubject: Tire Pressure Question   Tire Pressure Question Empty6/17/2009, 6:35 pm

Hello to everyone ... I'm a new guy to the TW and to this forum. I have a question about the tire pressure that I can run offroad ... 18psi seems alittle stiff for such a tire that is on the TW's. The dealer told me I could run as little as 12psi with no problem for off road use. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks

I rode 12psi offroad and had no problem at all. The ride is indeed softer. I doubt that you would be so inclined, but at lower pressure, you don't want to get carried away and drop the clutch at higher revs. Given the limited horsepower and large contact patch of the tire it is unlikely, but you do not want to tempt fate and risk twisting/pulling the valve stem on the tube by applying to much torque. If you really get to love your bike you can improve the suspension and go back to running your tires at full pressure. Gerry

Yes I would like to inprove the suspension ... How do I do this ? What shock do I replace the stock on with ? Can I only improve the rear ? I just bought my TW the other night. At this point I was only able to get 20 miles of riding in , lots of rain up here in New York this time of year ( hell anytime of year here) but in that 20 miles I found that she rides alittle on the stiff side for my old bones. Would like to change the suspention right out of the gate . When I put her in the garage I checked the tire pressures , found the front to be at the correct 18psi and the rear was at 20psi . Lowered them both to 12psi . Have not had a chance to try it yet ( weather). I want to add the racks , seat cover, fuelcan carrier, skidplate ,,,, wher and what ones to buy ? I've had lots of motorcycles but this is my first TW . All of my bikes have been easy to find aftermarket part for . Don't know what will fit this little guy or who to get it from. All and any help on all topics will be greatly appreciated.

Marty

Marty, all of your questions have been answered in detail on the other forum so I well let you do some research as there is little point in me trying to re-invent the wheel. Many of us TW folks seem to be on the older side and seem to have many to the same issues with the bike. Gerry

Been trying for two days to get on that Forum .... I've submitted the form and have a password , but it will not let me on yet . I thought two days would have been enough time . How do I contact the administrater for the Forum , I can't find a link ? I can see that all of my question just could be answered there , but I need to get there .
Thanks for any and all your help Gerry.

From what I can see , the rear shock replacement has not yet been a success .... You would think that some company would jump on the chance to sell a few thousand shocks to all the TW riders. A direct replacement thing would be very nice ..

Marty, that issue as well has been covered in some detail on the other forum, you need to do a search and read the posts. It seems to have something to do with your e-mail address. It seems a few folks get a 'temporary' e-mail address with someplace else and try the forum again and frequently it works. Now you have a password and such and you can go back to your old address and log on all you want. Send Tracy/Goldenhtr an Email. He has a few posts here and is moderator on the other site. Gerry
